News and Updates

As most of you know our 2009 Track and Field District Meet will begin on Thursday, June 11th.  We have truly been working hard to make this meet the best that Georgia has seen.

At this time it's with great pleasure that we announce our special guest.  Olympic Gold Medalist DeeDee Trotter (3rd from left) will join us on Saturday morning, June 13th to sign autographs and take photos with our athletes.  At the Athens Games in 2004,  DeeDee ran the third leg of the U.S. Women's 4x400m relay which won gold.  DeeDee is a hometown girl who attended Cedar Grove High School.  She was the 2001 Georgia indoor and outdoor 200m champion and runner-up in the 100m and a standout basketball player.

DeeDee also founded the non-profit organization TEST ME I'M CLEAN.  Her non-profit organization is designed to educate and inspire athletes of all ages about the dangers of performance enhancement drugs.  The goal of Test Me I'm Clean is not to be a campaign, but a way of life.  I truly hope you'll make sure your athletes enjoy her!

If you have an athlete who is a 2008 AAU All-American, please make them available for photos at 9a on Saturday morning.  I've attached the list just in case you forgot

HOW DO I LOCATE AN AAU TEAM FOR MY CHILD

AAU does not have any clubs.  They only have club members.  These clubs join AAU in order to participate in AAU sanctioned events and to adequately insure their athletes, coaches and practice facilities.  Each club sets its own policies regarding tryout, practice, fees, goals, etc.  Some clubs host open tryouts, others are local teams that are hand picked by their local recreation groups, and some may not choose to have tryouts at all.  AAU does not govern these clubs except when they are participating in AAU sanctioned events.  Therefore, when looking for a club you should ask questions that would allow you to select a club that meets your own needs and expectations

AAU clubs do not report their tryout schedule to the GA AAU office.   Therefore, finding a club may be somewhat of a chore that will require contacting clubs in your area and making inquires about their program and what age groups they might be offering.
